Social Ministry

The Social Ministry Committee, as per the bylaws of our constitution,
“shall oversee the congregation’s ministry of service to all persons of all ages who are victims of illness, injustice, poverty, or any form of suffering in body, mind and/or spirit.”

Our ministries include:

  • The Food Pantry which provides household food for clients in our immediate neighborhood
  • York Conference of Lutherans Tutoring Program by helping recruit volunteers and providing snacks in conjunction with other churches in the York area
  • School backpacks for children of our Food Pantry clients (150+ backpacks in 2019)
  • Lutheran World Relief projects including SERRV sales and Sunday school children’s Barnyard project

Partnership with Jackson Elementary School to help students and parents with various needs including food, uniforms, hygiene kits, books, coats

Would you like to help?  The Committee meets every third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.  Members of the Committee are Pastor Stan Reep, Patsy Griffin, Nancy Bennett, Jim Mummert, Janet Moore, and Larry Moore.

In our partnering with Jackson Elementary School, we learned of a need for the students.  This time of year, as the weather begins to change, students often do not have coats.  If you have a gently worn, clean coat that you would like to donate (students ages are from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade), please bring it to the church and place it in the specially marked box.  Help keep a child warm this winter!

We are looking for volunteers to help with lunch for the Kindergarten Class at Jackson.  The school needs volunteers who could give a half hour of their time to help during Kindergarten lunch from 11:50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. to assist students through the food line, help students open milk, condiment packs, etc., monitor traffic in/out of the bathroom, and engage with students in conversation.  Please contact Patsy Griffin if you are interested in helping.  All volunteers will need to have clearances.

Thank you
