The Good Shepherd

Founded in 1836, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Our church is located at the corner of South George Street and Springettsbury Avenue in York, PA.  Our mission is to teach the world that God is Love! We are witnesses to this love because it has been shown to us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and we have experienced it in our own lives. We seek to show this love in word and deed and invite you to share in this mission with us.

Our Communion is open to all believers who trust that the Risen Christ is present for his people in the Holy Eucharist.  The Holy Eucharist is offered at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m.   The Holy Eucharist is brought to shut-ins through our Visitation Ministry.

The present congregation is an aggregate of 3 York Lutheran churches: St. Paul’s, St. Luke’s, and Augsburg. Together they joined to build the present church building in 1940, dedicating it in 1942.  Since then, it has expanded, renovated, and serves a community broader than the original south end of York.  We are committed to helping our members grow in Christian faith and daily life.  We promote healthy lives of faith through Bible study, lay worship assistance, visitation ministry, music, and a multitude of secular projects. Our lives as Christians do not stop at the church doors; that is where they begin.  St. Paul’s is a congregation reaching out to meet the needs of our community and to the world. Christian love is manifested by providing food and homes for the needy in York and funds for ministry and schooling in Africa.

“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.  Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”    John 13:34-35
