Bridge of Hope Update

It is with much gratitude that we commend the volunteers who are members of the Community of Support for our Mother and Daughter as they embark on their journey to life in a stable and safe home. Since our launch on February 19th, with breakfast, fellowship and getting to know each other our Neighboring Volunteers have been very busy. Many of you have joined them in donations and contributions and we thank you. We are thrilled to report that mother and child have moved into an apartment in Red Lion. Moving day was Good Friday, and by the time the crew finished dishes were stored, beds made, and most furniture was in place. We will continue to update you on the progress of our family. They are so very grateful and appreciative of the generosity of St. Paul’s and their new “neighbors”.  Thank you for the continued prayers for this family.

Update:  Our Neighboring Volunteers continue to support our family weekly with text messages, phone calls, and visits.  We gathered as a group in June in a backyard for conversations and snacks.  Those involved are enjoying this opportunity for building friendships.  St. Paul’s neighboring volunteers and our family joined other Bridge of Hope groups from the York, Harrisburg, Camp Hill area for a picnic.  We were able to meet informally with other volunteers, families, board and staff members.  The highlight activity was a bubble machine that filled a grassy spot with bubbles 2 feet deep!  Children and a few adults, enjoyed jumping and rolling in the fluffy bubbles.

Update: In September we treated our mother to a Girl’s Night Out Dinner to celebrate her birthday.  What fun to talk, eat and pause in the midst of busy life.

The Bridge of Hope Neighboring group at St. Paul’s is coming to the end of their two-year commitment. The mother that they have been walking with is in stable housing, going to school to become a medical assistant, and working at York Hospital. Her daughter will be starting Kindergarten next fall. We will have our final gathering Sunday, January 28, 4:30-6:30 PM. If you would be willing to help with the dinner and the celebration that evening, along with learning more about our experience as neighboring volunteers, please contact Patty Snyder or call the church office. 717-843-8155.
